Cancer

On March 3 I talked of obesity and mentioned some of the health problems associated with it. Today I have decided to focus on the health problems associated with obesity giving particular attention to cancer.

According to reports published By Dr. Mercola on Mercola.com obesity is responsible for an estimated 500 000 cancer cases worldwide each year. In these reports it was said that women are at the greatest risk as they are twice as likely to develope obesity related cancer compared to men. The most common forms that are related to obesity are post menopousal breast, endometrial and colon cancer.

below is a video showing how obesity is associated with cancer.

One disturbing factor is that according to the report estimates suggest that nearly half of the world's population will be obese by 2030. This means that if not kept in check cancer related deaths will also increase.

Obesity is not only linked to cancer but also other health problems such as type 2 diabetis and heart diseases. Below is a table showing other health problems associated with obersity.

Guidlines for preventing both obesity and cancer

  • Buy whole organic foods and cook from scratch

This reduces your exposure to pesticides and genetically engineered ingredients, artificial sweeteners and harmful processed fats.

  • Opt for organic grass-fed meats

This reduces your protein consumption to one gram per kilogram of lean body weight, as excess protein may promote tumor growth.

  • Opt for glass packaging and storage containers

 This avoids endocrine disrupting chemicals.

  • Exercise

This lowers your insulin levels, promoting weight loss and discouraging the growth and spread of cancer cells.

Be responsible for your health, be mindful of what you eat!
